Episode 2

The Pod has been an exciting adventure after its full launch this semester! The website is up and running successfully, the UNSW Sounds Project CD was produced and organised by the Pod, the Pod Egg (Podasaurus) was created with a lot of toil and trouble, our content flow started with shows being published online on our website, and we’ve started building our interactive platform ‘Talk Back’ behind the scenes which includes the witty psychoanalyses by Dr. Choke, and allows students to voice their opinions quite literally.

The Pod aims to present current affairs and promote general awareness while keeping you entertained. There are approximately no rules here at the Pod and our weekly meetings are always an evening to remember! Migrating from meeting in a seedy-by-night narrow room at Webster to the Blockhouse has also been a progressive highlight. Furthermore, Pod territory continues to expand as we have had over 1000 visits to the site, 100s of downloads and we hope to keep you coming back for more! What can I say, we’re pretty awesome - na’am sayin’?!

Our exposes know no limits and we’ll let you be the judge on whether we keep to our promises. For now, we continue to trek the treacherous road to fame and freedom. Being volunteers though, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is a metaphorical reference for getting to say what we want!

Internet Censorship is one phrase that shouldn’t touch the lips of a democratic nation. With the new proposal of Internet Censorship hovering above Australia, this is a topic that the media should have labeled the high-wire-stunt of the government’s circus act. Senator Conroy has suggested a concept that many would colloquially term an “epic fail”.

Desperation has settled to promote this censorship with absurd claims about the Russian mafia, the merging of two separate and needed media moderators, the blocking of wikileaks and threats to Whirlpool and Electronic Frontiers Australia! There is suspicion of mission creep with this concept as no one will even know the difference between illegal sites, government-blocked sites and sites with broken links.

Nevertheless, let us give them the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps our government has an awesome sense of humour and sent in the clowns to alleviate the GFC with this joke. So now that we have all had a laugh, what next?!
